Speech at Gunma Kokusai Academy

Kent was invited to speak at Gunma Kosusai Academy in January of 2015. It is a Japanese school that teaches all curriculum in English. This is the entryway to the school.

When we first got to the school, they took us on a tour. Gunma Kokusai Academy is an open classroom type school and we found it functioning in an incredible way. They have mostly foreign teachers employed at this school and they seem to really enjoy their experience teaching at this school. They focus on the basics and don't have any kind of politics interfering with their curriculum. Their concern is the children.

Music is an important class for all of the children.

Home economics is taught which includes sewing.....like the good old days in the U.S. I hope the U.S. schools are still teaching sewing.

The man we are standing next to is the "president" of the teachers.

Art is another important subject at the school. Many of the art projects were on display.

These cans were turned into all sorts of things from robots to flowers. They are so creative!

In order to keep the kids blood moving and their hearts pumping, P.E. is an essential part of the curriculum.

They appreciate studying the great people of the past and how they contributed to our present day. The goal today is to take the past and perfect the future.

These are the uniforms that the students wear.

After our school tour, the administration served us lunch. This particular bento box was great. Tempura, veggies fruit, sashimi, and rice.

These are some of the faculty members as well as the mayor that is the first person on the left.

The woman is the principal.

These virtues are taught throughout the year, every year. I was very impressed with this wishing that our schools would teach these wonderful principles of life.

Kent spoke to some kids while they were eating lunch. They were adorable!

Japanese schools do not have cafeterias. The students eat their lunch in their classrooms.

Kent spoke to the parents before he spoke to the students.

We went into the principal's office before we were to go into the gymnasium to speak to the children.

Kent had the kids "eating out of his hands".

This gymnasium was freezing!! Japanese schools have no heaters or furnaces in their gymnasiums. Brrrrr........

We went to the principal's office after the speech so they could take pictures say good-bye. This is the principal.

The head teacher.

These are the student body officers.

The school is the larger building in the background.

We had a great experience with the wonderful people at Gunma Kokusai Academy.
